Why is International Solidarity Day celebrated every August 31?

The date of August 31 was chosen in honor of the Polish social movement called Solidarity, which was represented in 1980 by the trade union ‘Solidarnosc’. Although this celebration has a long history and trajectory, there is also the International Day of Human Solidarity established by UNESCO, which is a different celebration and is held on December 20.

The aim of this date is to raise awareness about the power of mutual aid among human beings and also the importance of being able to lend a hand to those who need it most. Among them, the poor, disadvantaged, children and the elderly, and the holding of free health days.
