Argentina’s agenda for the 2024 Paralympic Games: who is competing this Saturday

The competition began on August 28. The national delegation has 70 athletes who will represent the country in 14 disciplines, with Los Murciélagos as the only team.

On Saturday, 16 Argentine athletes will compete in the Paralympic Games.

The Paralympic Games take place in Paris from the August 28 to September 8, 2024. In this edition, 70 Argentine athletes They are part of the country’s delegation to participate in sporting events.

The first edition of these Paralympic Games took place in Rome in 1960. Since then, the country has managed to 165 medalsof which 2 were obtained during this edition: Bronze in shot put by Antonella Ruiz Diaz and Bronze in parataekwondo (category K44 up to 70 kg) by Juan Samorano.

The first Argentine medal at the Paralympic Games

Antonella Ruiz Diaz (27 years old), representative of Argentina from Gualeguaychú, won the first medal for the Argentine delegation in the 2024 edition. With a throw of 9.58 meters in the F41 category, the athlete won the bronze medal in shot put, repeating the Success achieved at the Tokyo 2020 Games.

The Argentinean achieved her best mark in her fifth attempt of her performance, after having registered throws of 9.33, 9.35, 9.45 and 8.87 meters. Her sixth and final throw was void.

In this way, the gold medal went to Raua Tlili from Tunisiawith a release of 10.40 meters, who also maintains the world and olympic record with a mark of 10.55 metres obtained in Tokyo 2020. On the other hand, the silver medal was won by Uzbekistan’s Kubaro Khakimova, with a distance of 10.36 metres. Ruiz Díaz beat Colombian Mayerli Buitrago Airza (9.39 metres), Moroccan Youssra Karim (8.77 metres) and other high-level competitors to reach the Olympic podium.
