The world number one golfer and Olympic champion Scottie Scheffler has now triumphed for the first time at the multi-million dollar season finale of the PGA Tour. The 28-year-old superstar from the USA won on Sunday (local time) at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta with 264 strokes (30 strokes under par), clearly ahead of his compatriots Collin Morikawa (-26) and Sahith Theegala (-24). Scheffler received a gigantic bonus of 25 million US dollars (22.6 million euros) for winning the FedExCup ranking.
Scheffler dominates the golf scene. In addition to his success at the Tour finals, the world number one has already won six tournaments on the PGA Tour this season – including the prestigious Masters in Augusta for the second time. Scheffler was also in a class of his own at the Olympic Games in Paris, winning the gold medal.
In the special format of the tour finals, Scheffler started the tournament on Thursday as the leader of the FedEXCup rankings, two strokes ahead of second-placed Xander Schauffele. In total, bonuses totaling 100 million US dollars (90.4 million euros) were distributed to the players in the FedExCup. German golfers were unable to qualify for the final of the best 30 golfers on the US tour.
