The 85-year-old actor played the beloved wizard in the first three Lord of the Rings films, as well as the later Hobbit films.

Ian McKellen is set to return as Gandalf again. McKellen, who played the beloved wizard in the first three Gandalf films, The Lord of the Ringsas well as in the subsequent ones of The Hobbithas revealed that there is already magic working behind the scenes to bring him back.

“I was just told that there will be more films and that Gandalf will be involved and they expect me to play him”McKellen told Britain’s Big Issue magazine. “When? I don’t know. What’s the script? It’s not written yet. So they better hurry up!”

McKellen, who is 85, recently suffered significant physical damage, including a chipped vertebra, after falling during a stage performance of Shakespeare’s “Henry IV: Parts 1 and 2” in the U.K. The accident earlier this summer at London’s Noël Coward Theatre forced the actor to cut short his run as the buffoonish royal sidekick Falstaff, and only the fat suit he was wearing prevented him from being more seriously injured after he tripped on stage and fell into the audience.

“I feel physically weak, so I’m doing exercises,” McKellen said of the accident. “And of course, it’s emotional. We all stumble throughout our lives, but when you get to my age you can’t always get back up.”

“I’m just trying to convince myself that it was an accident. [y no la vejez]”“I’m usually working or getting ready to work, and I’ve been doing a bit of that, wondering what the best plan might be. I’m going to take the rest of the year off. Not because I need to, but because I want to.”
