Angelina Jolie revealed that she stopped singing because an ex-partner criticized her voice. “I don’t sing,” he said.There was someone in my life who was not kind to me when it came to singing.It was a relationship I was in. So I assumed I couldn’t really sing. I’d gone to drama school, so it was weird that that would affect me. I simply adapted to this person’s opinion. So I had to overcome a lot of things to start singing.”

As Jolie explained, the filming process “grew and grew and grew until we were at La Scala. La Scala was where it was all going. It was going to take the whole crew, the whole audience. I was so out of my comfort zone that I was dizzy. There was nothing to do but jump, just jump in.”
On the process of recovering his voice, he said: “It took many months of singing lessons.. Months of learning to sing and then Italian classes and then the voice and doing all those things like her. You try to be precise.”
Jolie said singing opera, which requires using “your whole body as hard as you can sing,” is “terrifying” because “rarely are we asked in life to be all we can be or feel all we can feel.”

Maria made her debut in the Venice International Film Festival last week and Jolie was moved to tears after audiences gave the film an eight-minute standing ovation.
Although reviews of the film have generally been mixed, Jolie’s performance has been described as “career-defining” and many have tipped her for an Oscar nomination.
The film, written by the creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knightalso stars Kodi Smit-McPhee and Pierfrancesco Favino.
