Paralympics in Paris: Rainy Paralympics closing ceremony started

For eleven days, para-athletes from all over the world compete for gold medals in and around Paris. Now the 17th edition of the Paralympics comes to an end with a big celebration in the Stade de France.

The closing ceremony of the 17th Paralympic Games in the Stade de France in Paris started with an impressive light and music show. Almost 2000 projectors are in use, and 24 artists will provide musical accompaniment throughout the evening. The ceremony was opened by the French singer Santa, who presented Johnny Hallyday’s cult song “Vivre pour le Meilleur”.

At the end of a rainy day, 64,000 spectators and more than 5,800 coaches, support staff and athletes were expected. There will be a parade similar to the opening ceremony on the Avenue des Champs Élysées in the direction of the Place de La Concorde. The German flag will be carried by fencer Maurice Schmidt and swimmer Elena Semechin. Both won gold in the French capital.

“Extraordinary Adventures”

“After making the whole world dream for a summer, tonight we are bringing the extraordinary adventure of Paris 2024 to a magnificent conclusion,” said the head of the organizing committee, Tony Estanguet, describing his expectations for the celebration. The Paralympics particularly stand for borderless and fair coexistence as well as for the joy of life.
