This is a real coup. The team of Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll has brought in the most respected designer in Formula 1. Ferrari is left empty-handed. This could have consequences.
Design genius Adrian Newey will be working for the British Formula 1 racing team Aston Martin. The 65-year-old, who has played a key role in all of Red Bull’s successes and titles to date, has been the focus of much speculation for months, with a move to Ferrari in particular being repeatedly expected.
“This is the most exciting news in Aston Martin’s history,” said team co-owner Lawrence Stroll at a press conference. Newey will join as a shareholder and managing technical partner. He will start on March 1, 2025.
Newey is moving from Milton Keynes, where Red Bull Racing has its headquarters, just a few miles away to Aston Martin’s state-of-the-art headquarters at the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

Newey has been working as an engineer in Formula 1 since the 1980s, he has worked for Williams, McLaren and has been working for Red Bull since 2006. When he arrived, cars designed by him had already won the drivers’ title six times and the constructors’ championship six times.
At Red Bull, he has now won seven more drivers’ titles and six more teams’ titles. One of Newey’s hardest hours was the fatal accident of Formula 1 icon Ayrton Senna in 1994 in a Williams he had designed.
His departure from Red Bull has been a given for some time. He will leave the team after the first quarter of next year. With Newey’s future commitment, Aston Martin should also become even more attractive in the driver market; the 43-year-old two-time world champion Fernando Alonso and Stroll’s son Lance (25) currently drive for the team.
