Franz Beckenbauer has had an impressive football career. From his beginnings in Munich-Giesing to Bayern Munich to the World Cup as a player (1974) and coach (1990) and as a key official at the 2006 summer fairytale. The Germans have even forgiven him for singing and advertising instant soups.
But the last World Cup in Germany casts a shadow on his work: the circumstances under which it was awarded could never be definitively clarified.

Nevertheless, Beckenbauer remains the first international football superstar from Germany to play alongside the legendary Pelé at New York Cosmos and to call him his friend until his death in 2022.
Beckenbauer’s health was already too poor to travel to Brazil for the funeral. Now “the Kaiser” has also died – and leaves behind a great piece of sports history.
