The German men’s tennis team has finally qualified for the Davis Cup finals in Malaga. After winning two group matches, they are now benefiting from the victory of an American.

The German Davis Cup team has qualified for the final round in Malaga. After two wins in the first two group matches, the men’s tennis team, who are not playing, benefited from the 6:4, 6:3 victory of the American Mackenzie McDonald against the Slovakian Lukas Klein. This means that the German team, which has not lost a point so far, can no longer be denied second place and thus a place in the final round before the group final match on Saturday (8:00 a.m. CEST/DF1/DAZN and TennisChannel) against the USA.

Previously, the heavily weakened DTB team of team manager Michael Kohlmann had won 3-0 against Chile and Slovakia in Zhuhai, China. Singles players Maximilian Marterer and Yannick Hanfmann surprised everyone, and the top doubles pair Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz showed that they had recovered well from the strain of traveling straight after losing the US Open final.

At the Davis Cup finals in Malaga, eight nations will play for the title from November 19 to 24. The German line-up is likely to look different there. Team boss Kohlmann hopes to be able to rely on world number two Alexander Zverev and the currently injured Jan-Lennard Struff and Dominik Koepfer.
