In the Bundesliga, Stuttgart, Leverkusen and Frankfurt won on Saturday. RB Leipzig, on the other hand, had to settle for one point.
On the third matchday of the Bundesliga, VfB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen also won on Friday evening, following Borussia Dortmund. An overview of the matches played so far:
Borussia Mönchengladbach – VfB Stuttgart 1:3
Three days before their international comeback on the Champions League stage at Real Madrid, VfB Stuttgart have achieved their first Bundesliga victory of the season. Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß’s team beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 (1-1) on Saturday and are well prepared for their first international appearance in the premier class in 15 years. Before that, the Swabians had only managed a 5-0 victory in the cup against second division promoted team Preußen Münster.
In front of 53,756 spectators in Borussia Park, Alassane Plea (27th minute) scored the goal for the hosts on the 80th birthday of club legend Günter Netzer. National player Deniz Undav (21st) and Ermedin Demirovic (58th/61st) scored twice for the Swabians. Felix Brych celebrated his 354th appearance, making him the record referee in the Bundesliga.
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – Bayer 04 Leverkusen 1:4
Bayer Leverkusen has returned with a masterful performance after the end of an impressive winning streak of 35 unbeaten Bundesliga games. The defending champions beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 4-1 (2-1) thanks to a confident performance and now have six points in their account.
In front of 30,150 spectators, Martin Terrier scored Leverkusen’s goals in the 17th minute, Victor Boniface (30th/75th) and Florian Wirtz (72nd) from a penalty. Mergim Berisha scored for Hoffenheim (37th).
RB Leipzig – 1. FC Union Berlin 0:0
Not even a penalty worked: RB Leipzig only managed a 0:0 draw against 1. FC Union Berlin despite overwhelming superiority, and the club’s internal starting record of three consecutive victories remains unmatched. In front of 47,800 fans, Lois Openda missed a penalty in the 74th minute – it was the only real excitement in the boring Bundesliga game.

Deadline Day: The most expensive transfers this summer
VfL Wolfsburg – Eintracht Frankfurt 1:2
The Frankfurt super-storm has struck again. Thanks to its two excellent attackers Omar Marmoush and Hugo Ekitiké, Eintracht Frankfurt won 2-1 (1-0) against VfL Wolfsburg on the third matchday of the Bundesliga.
In the 30th minute, the Frenchman Ekitiké skilfully set up the Egyptian Marmoush for the opening goal. Eight minutes before the end, Marmoush scored Frankfurt’s second goal from a handball penalty (82nd minute). Ridle Baku scored in the meantime to make it 1:1 for VfL (76th minute). However, the quality of the attack was the big difference between the two teams. Marmoush and Ekitiké have now scored seven goals together in the four competitive matches of this still young season.
SC Freiburg – VfL Bochum 2:1
A double strike from Junior Adamu within three minutes has further increased Bochum’s worries in the Bundesliga. In his SC Freiburg’s 2:1 (0:1) win, the striker scored in the 58th and 61st minutes and was instrumental in the hosts’ second win of the season. Myron Boadu (45th) scored the rather undeserved half-time lead for the generally harmless Bochum team in front of 34,100 spectators.

Borussia Dortmund – 1. FC Heidenheim 4:2
Karim Adeyemi crowned a perfect week for him with another brace and shot Borussia Dortmund to the top of the Bundesliga table, at least for one night. Thanks in particular to two goals and an assist from the 22-year-old, BVB demystified the previous league leader 1. FC Heidenheim with a 4:2 (3:1) win and overtook the Swabians, who had previously been undefeated in five competitive matches this season.
“I was actually hoping to score a third goal,” Adeyemi said with a smile on DAZN. “But I’m very happy with the two goals and even happier with the win.”
Donyell Malen (12th minute), Adeyemi (17th/41st) and Emre Can (90th+3/handball penalty) also scored the first FCH goals in this Bundesliga season. The goals from Marvin Pieringer (39th) and Maximilian Breunig from a penalty (74th) were not enough for the guests, who only really put BVB under pressure in the final phase.
