Ilkay Gündogan, midfielder from Manchester City, has decided on the three best footballers in the world at the moment.
At a Q&A on his Twitterprofile, the 31-year-old German national player named Robert Lewandowski (FC Bayern), Mohamed Salah (FC Liverpool) and Karim Benzema (Real Madrid) when asked by a fan. Lionel Messi, who won the 2021 Ballon d’Or alongside Lewandowski and Salah, is missing from his listing, as is Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ilkay Gündogan does not rule out a return to the Bundesliga
In addition, when asked about the toughest midfielder he has ever met, Gündogan’s choice fell on Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante. He called Kevin De Bruyne and Mesut Özil “perhaps the two best playmakers the Premier League has ever seen”.
Gündogan was also asked if he could imagine returning to the Bundesliga. The former Dortmund player’s answer: “I’m very happy at Manchester City at the moment. But never say never. The Bundesliga is still a great league that I follow a lot. It will always be interesting for a German international.”
Gündogan moved from BVB to Manchester in 2016. He is under contract with City until 2023.
