Maximiliano Pullaro confronted Javier Milei about the Budget: “It is not up to us to make more effort”

In dialogue with the media, Pullaro referred to Milei’s claim, who this Sunday demanded before Congress that the provinces make an adjustment of US$60 billion, and highlighted that his district was one “of those who have made the greatest effort so far this year to achieve efficiency in the management of public resources, to achieve fiscal balance.”

In this regard, the governor recalled that the provincial administration began “with a very significant fiscal deficit, which affected us in three payrolls this year, and we had a very significant cut by the national government that impacted us in one more payroll.”

However, by first reducing political spending and positions, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, by working hard on the efficiency of managing public resources, we were able to show a small fiscal surplus in the first six months. We made all the efforts we had to make and we even made a much greater effort than the national government did.”he added.

On the other hand, the president referred to the debt of between $700 and $800 billion that the Nation has with Santa Fe: “Santa Fe should be paid what it owes. We do not expect to be given anything above the law, but neither anything below the law. More effort cannot be made.”

“It is not our responsibility to make any further efforts because we do not owe the Nation anything, and the Nation owes a lot to the province of Santa Fe, and we will continue with great respect, but with great firmness, the claim before the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation,” he said.

At the same time, he estimated that the pension debt is “around 700 or 800 billion pesos, which increases every month,” as a result of the decision to stop sending automatic transfers from the Nation for the balance of the pension funds of thirteen provinces that did not transfer their systems, including Santa Fe.

“We are investing US$500 million in public works”

Pullaro also said that the efforts that Santa Fe has been making are aimed at “Strengthen investment in the productive system, to generate work, to generate employment, to subsidize rates, so that machinery can be purchased, so that there can be public works that employ many people, understanding that for us, applying a countercyclical economy in a time of economic recession supports private employment and that has a positive impact on society.”

“This year we are investing 500 million dollars in public works, and next year we will invest around 1 billion dollars in public works as a provincial government with our own resources,” he added.

The first Santa Fe president stressed that “The province is adjusting everything it can every day, but the resources are not for the nation, the resources are for the development of infrastructure, for the development of energy, to sustain private employment, fundamentally by relying on different tools that the provincial government has.”

Finally, in response to the request from the Nation that the provinces make an “additional adjustment” of 60 billion dollars, the governor said that “Santa Fe would be entitled to around 5.5 billion dollars and we have a budget of 8 billion dollars. It is really a grandiloquent phrase, but it is far from reality. We are going to continue adjusting, but to strengthen the development of the province.”

“Santa Fe will not be a larger contribution to the national State, because it contributes three and a half times more than what the national State returns to the Province,” he concluded.
