Champions League: Now the clubs earn even more

The clubs have always earned a lot of money in the Champions League. After a reform, the revenue opportunities have become even greater.

Even more money can be earned in the Champions League following the reform of the competition. The clubs participating in the premier class and the Supercup are to receive a total of 2.467 billion euros. Despite the field being enlarged from 32 to 36 premier class participants, the income is increasing on average. Last year, a total of 2.002 billion euros was distributed to the 32 Champions League participants. The prize money from the European Football Union UEFA for the clubs is made up of three pillars.

Entry fee in the Champions League (27.5 percent)

Each of the 36 participants will receive 18.62 million euros. Last year, each club received 15.64 million euros. The German participants FC Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, VfB Stuttgart, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have already secured their income.

Performance-related bonuses (37.5 percent)

In the league phase, every win is rewarded with 2.1 million euros and every draw with 700,000 euros. At the end of the league phase, the clubs receive placement bonuses. The last-placed team receives at least 275,000 euros, the top-placed team 9.9 million euros. The 700,000 euros that are not initially distributed in the event of a draw increase this type of income. The teams that take one of the top eight places receive an additional two million euros. The clubs in places 9 to 16 each receive one million euros.
As before, there are rewards for progressing:

Qualification for the playoffs: 1 million euros

Round of 16: 11 million euros

Quarterfinals: 12.5 million euros

Semi-finals: 15 million euros

Final entry: 18.5 million euros

Title win: 6.5 million euros

Value premium (35 percent)

The newly created value pillar is a merger of the previous pillars of club coefficient and market pool. In total, the value bonus pot contains 853 million euros. A team can receive a maximum of over 40 million, and the minimum income is just over one million euros.
