Javier Milei will entertain the “87 heroes” who protected the veto of the retirement law with a barbecue in Olivos
Last week, pro-government legislators and a group of allies formed a containment front in favor of the president to support his decision to reject, through a veto decree, the Retirement Mobility Law approved by Congress with two-thirds of both chambers.
The head of state expressed his gratitude for the support coming from the PRO block and a group of radicals who, in less than a month, voted in favor of the law but then revised their position and spoke out against its enactment. For this reason, decided to entertain the deputies with a dinner.
The barbecue will take place this Tuesday night, starting at 7 p.m., at the presidential residence located in Olive trees. There he will receive the 87 deputies, whom he described as “heroes” for supporting the rejection of the law “in defense of fiscal balance.” “Today 87 heroes put a stop to the degenerate prosecutors who tried to destroy the fiscal surplus,” he said last week.
Prior to the session in the chamber, Milei himself took charge of the negotiations to try to convince the deputies. The president received a group of five radicals who were ultimately key in the final vote. They are: Mariano Campero, Luis Albino Picat, Michel Tournier, Pablo Cervi and Martin Arjol, who had supported the law. After the meeting with the head of state, they decided to change their position and support the government.
The national Executive managed to sustain the veto in a session that ended with 153 affirmative votes, 87 negative votes and 8 abstentions. The result was favorable for the ruling party, since it managed to take away support from the opposition, which needed to maintain the 160 votes that approved the law.
