During FC Barcelona’s match against AS Monaco, fans displayed a banner with a slogan reminiscent of a Nazi salute. This could also be seen in the internet broadcast.
Fans of FC Barcelona have caused a stir and criticism with a poster with references to National Socialism. The black banner with white writing was displayed in the away fans’ section before and during the Catalans’ Champions League match against AS Monaco on Thursday evening. The coach of the top Spanish football club, who was asked to respond, has been the former national coach Hansi Flick since this season. The banner read: “Flick heil”.
The slogan “Sieg Heil” was a common greeting used by the National Socialists. The poster was also shown in the broadcast by the streaming service DAZN. Several users on social media criticized the action, and the European Football Union UEFA was also asked for a reaction on Friday. Barcelona lost the match 1:2.
