Figure skater Mark Kondratyuk, who won the European Championship in Tallinn, deserves to participate in the team tournament at the Beijing Olympics. This was announced on Friday, January 14, by the Olympic champion in figure skating Alexei Yagudin.
“We all understand that the question of the composition for the Olympics was open. Who will be in the team, team leader, change or not. Kolyada has a minor injury. What is now is also unclear. (…) Kondratyuk is worthy of a commanding officer, ”Yagudin said in an interview with Sport-Express.
Mark Kondratyuk became the European champion in men’s singles on January 14, gaining 286.56 points in the sum of two programs. In the free program, the skater performed three quadruple jumps.
On January 13, Russian figure skaters Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov broke the world record for the sum of points in pair skating at the European Championships in Tallinn. They scored 236.43 points in the short and free programs. The result exceeded the previous achievement, owned by the Chinese Sui Wenjing and Han Cong (234.84 points).
On January 12, Russian Andrey Mozalev updated his personal record by performing a short program at the championship. The athlete jumped a cascade – quadruple toe loop + triple toe loop, quadruple salchow and triple axel. For hire, Mozalev received 99.76 points – this is his new personal record. The skater takes the first intermediate place.
