Frank Vander Sloot was born in 1948 and grew up in a rural environment in Cocolalla, Idaho. His parents, Peter Francis VanderSloot and Margaret May Christensen Sindberg-Woodley VanderSloot, settled in Idaho after living in Sheridan, Wyoming, and Hardin, Montana. His father worked as a painter for the Northern Pacific Railroad.
After graduating from Sandpoint High School In 1966, VanderSloot joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) at the age of 16. Then he studied at Brigham Young University (BYU) , Utah, where he worked and lived as a cleaner in a laundry.
After two semesters at BYU, VanderSloot left the university to fulfill a two and a half year mission for the LDS Church in the Netherlands. After his mission, he obtained a degree in marketing in 1972.
After graduating from BYU, he worked for nearly a decade at Automatic Data Processing (ADP) in sales, marketing, and general management. Later, it became regional vice president of Cox Communications in Vancouver, Washington.
In September 1985received an offer for direct Oil of Melaleuca, Inc.an Idaho Falls-based multi-level marketing company founded by his brother-in-law Roger Ball and Roger’s brother Allen Ball. VanderSloot took on the role of CEO and faced significant challenges dealing with regulatory issues and financial challenges. Despite the obstacles, VanderSloot managed to restructure the company and founded his own multi-level marketing company, Melaleuca, Inc., that same year.
He stopped being the CEO of Melaleuca in 2017. Following his retirement, VanderSloot did not completely abandon his involvement with the company. He remained active in the leadership and management of Melaleuca, but no longer served as CEO. Instead, He went on to assume the role of president of the company.
