“The performance was nervous, but I didn’t turn off for a second, because I understood that if I lose control, then there could be an error on any element, until the last final pose. Every pose, jump, step was controlled to the smallest detail, so that there were no stupid things, because of which I would reproach myself later, ”the figure skater shared.
She noted that the training was not bad, since Shcherbakova skated the program first, she had six minutes to prepare for the rental and adapt to the ice. In general, the rental was successful.
“I came here in normal form, I was just knocked out of myself by a short program. Yesterday was in a fog, I was coming to my senses. In general, I can’t say that there are any problems with my form, so today’s performance is not an accident and not something out of the ordinary, ”she said.
In the short program, for which the skater received less than 70 points for the first time since 2019, she made a mistake while performing the triple lutz-triple loop sequence and fell after the first jump.
She clarified that the fact of selection for the Olympics, which in fact was a performance at the European Championship, did not greatly affect her condition, unlike the failure during the short program. Shcherbakova added that the set and complexity of the elements of the program does not depend on the importance of the tournament, but on its form and ability to make a clean skate.
“I am satisfied with myself today, but if I am ready to show something more complex, I will. We are trying different options, I don’t forget about the lutz, it’s kind of there, but so far the final version of the elements is always made based on my form, ”said the champion.
