Antoine Griezmann (33) ends his career in the French national football team. The Atlético Madrid offensive star announced his departure on social networks after 137 international matches and 44 goals. “I close this chapter of my life with a heart full of memories. Thank you for this great adventure in three colors and see you soon,” wrote Griezmann at his end in the Équipe Tricolore.

The left-footer played his last major international match at the beginning of July in a 2-1 defeat in Munich in the European Championship semi-finals against eventual European champions Spain. Griezmann came on as a substitute in the second half, but was unable to turn things around.

“After ten incredible years marked by challenges, successes and unforgettable moments, it is time for me to start a new chapter and make way for the next generation,” said Griezmann. “Wearing this jersey was an honor and a privilege.”

His contract in Madrid runs until the summer of 2026. This week, national coach Didier Deschamps will announce the squad for the games in the Nations League.
