The specialized equipment is light and its construction process took four years.

The China Manned Space Agency (CMSA) has presented its new light space suitthe result of a research and development process that spanned four years. According to state television CCTV, this suit has been designed specifically for protect astronauts during their missions outside the ship in the difficult conditions of the lunar environment.

Unlike the Earth, the Moon lacks an atmosphere, which creates extremely drastic temperature variationsranging from 120°C to -130°C in areas close to its equator. Astronauts will have to face not only these extreme temperatures, but also a pressure that approaches a vacuum and levels of solar radiation much more intense than those experienced on our planet. This suit will give you the ability to walk, climb, drive vehicles, and conduct scientific research on the lunar surface, according to CCTV.

What is the suit like?

The suit is made with a special fabric designed to protect both of heat like lunar dust. Furthermore, it has gloves that allow astronauts to maintain necessary manual dexterity and with flexible knee jointswhich facilitates movement in the low gravity of the Moon.

Equipped with a panoramic visor that reduces glare, the suit also has a console connected to communication systems and a video camera. According to the Beijing-based China Astronaut Center, responsible for space training and research, the suit’s design seeks symbolize strength and endurance.

A campaign to give it a name

The CMSA has launched a public campaign for choose a name for this space suitaspiring to combine elements of rich traditional Chinese culture with modern technological innovation. In April, the Chinese state agency confirmed that the development of space systems and the planned schedule continue to advance, with the goal of sending Chinese astronauts to the Moon before the end of this decade.

China’s plans for the Moon

China’s ambitious lunar landing plan includes two independent launches of the Long March 10 rocket, in order to transport three astronauts and a lander to lunar orbit. Once there, the Mengzhou spacecraft will dock with the Lanyue lander, which will then descend to the surface of the Moon to begin scientific operations.
