The Head of Government of the City of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri, met with the Mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galanin a date in which they talked about the “shared vision” of the City that they maintain regarding “order and security.” Macri took the opportunity to invite his counterpart to the “International Meeting on Security and the Challenge of Management in Large Cities.”
“We have a vision of the city that we both share focused on order and security, these agendas position us as partners in the region,” Macri said at the end of the meeting in which he was accompanied by the Secretary General and International Relations, Fulvio Pompeoand the Undersecretary of International Relations, Ana Ciuti.
In relation to the security meeting organized by the Buenos Aires Government, which will be held in the City between November 18 and 20, Galán confirmed that Bogotá will participate in the meeting, which has the objective of creating a regional network of cities that work together on security.
Likewise, the mayors exchanged experiences on common challenges that have to do with police presence and the development of technologies to optimize resources.
In this sense, Macri highlighted the incorporation of mobile command units that allow monitoring critical areas in real time and the use of software that, through artificial intelligence, allows resources to be geolocated and makes the use of deployed personnel more efficient.
For his part, Galán highlighted the “Bogotá Walk Safely” program, a comprehensive project with a focus on security, education, environment and economic growth.
In addition, in terms of mobility, Macri highlighted the work of renewing part of the subway fleet and the infrastructure of the stations.. One of Galán’s priorities is the development of transportation and the construction of the Bogotá Metro.
Finally, both leaders agreed on the importance of developing a joint work agenda with the aim of strengthening ties between both cities, continuing to exchange good practices and building a cooperation network at the regional level.
This meeting represented Jorge Macri’s fifth bilateral meeting with mayors since he took office in December 2023. In addition to Galán, he held meetings with the leaders of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri; Lisbon, Carlos Moedas; Curitiba, Rafael Greca; and Braga, Ricardo Rio.
He also received visits from Marcela Cubillos Sigallcandidate for mayor of Las Condes (Chile); Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, elected Mayor of Tijuana (Mexico); and Claudia Agatón Muñiz, Elected Mayor of Ensenada (Mexico)
