Besiktas Istanbul “optimistic” about the signing of Diego Godin

The Turkish champions Besiktas Istanbul are hoping for a signing from Diego Godin and are optimistic that the transfer will work.

The Turkish champions Besiktas Istanbul firmly expects to be able to sign Diego Godin in the coming days or weeks if necessary. The experienced Uruguayan is actually under contract with the Italian first division club Cagliari Calcio until 2023, but the Gazzetta dello Sport recently reported that the Sardinians were ready to let the 35-year-old go.

Besiktas wants to take advantage of this. “The player has asked for some cooling off time, but we are optimistic,” said Vice-President Emre Kocadag Liberty. Coach Sergen Yalcin added that Godin’s experience could “be very useful in the Champions League”. Besiktas had followed Godin’s path for two years and “his offensive and defensive skills are a perfect match for our style of play,” said Yalcin.

Godin successful with Atletico Madrid

Godin joined Cagliari last September after just a year at Inter Milan. Godin had previously played for Atletico Madrid for nine years and was considered one of the best defenders in the world at his wedding. With the Rojiblancos, Godin won the Spanish championship once, the cup once and the Europa League twice.

Besiktas has already strengthened itself in the current transfer period with the former Bundesliga professional Kenan Karaman and veteran Mehmet Topal, among others.
