Dani Carvajal cries in pain. The Real Madrid winger suffers a knee injury. His coach Carlo Ancelotti gives an initial assessment.
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti fears a “very serious knee injury” to his star player Dani Carvajal. “Everyone is sad and worried,” said Ancelotti after Los Blancos’ 2-0 (1-0) win in the top game of the Spanish football championship against third-placed FC Villarreal. This was something that happened very often “because of the calendar” and that affected a “very important” player in his squad, the Italian said, probably referring to the large number of games for the top club.
European champion Carvajal collided with his opponent in a duel in the final stages of the game. The Spanish international was still able to clear the ball. But then he collapsed with loud cries of pain, holding his right knee. The 32-year-old was brought off the pitch on a stretcher in tears.
An exact diagnosis is still pending. “Carvajal is a key player for us because of his experience and his attitude,” said Ancelotti about the Real professional, who has been playing for Los Blancos’ professional team since the 2013/14 season. The outside player was nominated by national coach Luis de la Fuentes for the Nations League games against Denmark (October 12) and Serbia (October 15). Real will play in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund on October 22nd.
