DFB: Nagelsmann gathers weakened squad in Franconia

The national team continues the group phase of the Nations League with games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands. After the loss of some regular employees, some newcomers are coming into focus.

National coach Julian Nagelsmann gathered the national soccer team in Herzogenaurach on Monday. Around the two Nations League games next Friday (8:45 p.m.) in Zenica against Bosnia-Herzegovina and three days later in Munich against the Netherlands, the 23-man squad will again train and live on the premises of DFB supplier Adidas.

Losses in the DFB squad

Nagelsmann has to cope with high-profile offensive failures in the two group games. Jamal Musiala, Niclas Füllkrug and Kai Havertz are missing due to injury. For the first time, the national coach nominated Tim Kleindienst from Mönchengladbach, Jamie Leweling from Stuttgart and Jonathan Burkardt from Mainz. The national coach also has to try something new in goal: After the long-term absence of regular goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann is due to make his debut in the first game.

The DFB selection goes into matchdays three and four of the group phase as league leaders with four points ahead of the Dutch team, who are tied on points. The top two teams qualify for the quarter-finals of the Nations League.
