The national coach has to replace some top performers in the Nations League. But that doesn’t change his plan against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands.
Despite the absence of several top performers such as Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz, national coach Julian Nagelsmann is still aiming for the optimum in the national soccer team’s upcoming Nations League games against Bosnia-Herzegovina and the Netherlands. “We had to make some changes to the squad at short notice due to a few injuries. But our goals remain,” said the national coach after the DFB squad met in Herzogenaurach, Franconia.
“We want to win against the Netherlands in Bosnia and Herzegovina and at home in Munich in front of our own fans and defend our lead in the Nations League,” said Nagelsmann. In the games this Friday (8:45 p.m./RTL) in Zenica and three days later in Munich, the 37-year-old will have to cope with the high-profile failures of Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Niclas Füllkrug, all of whom are injured, particularly on the offensive end.
In addition, regular goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has to be replaced after his serious knee injury. Finally, Robin Koch from Frankfurt also canceled due to injury. Nagelsmann nominated offensive player Kevin Schade for the defensive player.
“It’s a shame that this time we have to do without injured regulars who supported us at the home European Championships in the summer: We’re now really looking forward to seeing our new players in the team and in training,” said Nagelsmann. The first team training before the Bosnia game will take place on Tuesday. As with the European Championships in the summer and the first Nations League games in September, the national team is again living and training on the premises of DFB supplier Adidas.
