She does not name Novak Djokovic, but France’s sports minister is very clear: Roxana Maracineanu announced via Twitter that soon only vaccinated people will be allowed in sports stadiums. That should mean Djokovic’s end for the French Open.
After tennis star Novak Djokovic had to leave Australia and is not allowed to take part in the Australian Open, he is threatened with the next tournament exclusion. Because the French Minister of Sports Roxana Maracineanu clarified via Twitter that only vaccinated people are allowed in public facilities such as stadiums: “The vaccination card has been passed. As soon as the law comes into force, it will be used for entering public facilities (stadiums, theaters, trade fairs ) compulsory for all French and foreign spectators, staff and professionals. Thanks to the Sport Movement for convincing the last few unvaccinated people. We will work together to keep the competition alive and act as ambassadors for these measures at international level.”
It is therefore already clear that Novak Djokovic is not allowed in the stadium at the French Open (May 16 to June 5, 2022) – unless he can prove a corona vaccination by then. Only vaccinated players are allowed at the Masters events in Indian Wells and Miami in March, as they are now at the Australian Open and the US Open. Nothing is known about the rules in Wimbledon. The French Open has so far been considered a tournament in which Djokovic can also take part without vaccination. That’s over now.
Novak Djokovic wants to take his time
Djokovic will probably miss the next chance for his 21st Grand Slam title. As he took off from Melbourne for Dubai, it was a journey into the unknown for Djokovic. He is at a crossroads: does the 34-year-old have to be vaccinated if his career is not to end? There are many indications that this is the case. He will now take some time to recover before making any further comments, Djokovic wrote on Twitter after the Australian Federal Court’s decision. Maybe he will also use the time to reconsider his decision against a corona vaccination.
