Jürgen Klinsmann ended his active football career in 1998, but today, almost 24 years later, the former national coach is afraid of long-term health consequences.
The 1990 world champion is particularly concerned about ongoing brain damage from two serious head injuries sustained during his time in England, which could later lead to Alzheimer’s or dementia.
The English Newspaper The Mirror Klinsmann said in an interview that he had “some brain scans” done. “You could still see the two incidents on the scans,” Klinsmann said.
This refers to two events during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
In 1994 he had to have 11 stitches in his mouth after a collision with Des Walker. “I didn’t wake up until I was in the dressing room, when the stitches were already done. It was a long concussion,” admitted Klinsmann.
