Raphael Varane joins Manchester United from Real Madrid

The future of Raphael Varane has been clarified! The French center-back is joining Manchester United from Real Madrid.

World champion Raphael Varane is moving from Spanish runner-up Real Madrid to Manchester United. The Red Devils officially announced this on Tuesday. They report an agreement with the defender, who still has to go through the medical check and clarify his personal contract details. The fee should be 41 million euros plus bonuses.

This ends a long transfer saga. Talks had been going on between Varane, his advisors and the clubs for weeks. However, an agreement had emerged in the last few days. On Monday, the clubs agreed on the transfer fee.

Manchester United: Raphael Varane was under contract with Real until 2022

The central defender was aiming for a new sporting challenge – preferably in a country other than Spain. In the spring, he refused to extend his contract with the royal family, which ended in 2022. There was no second, improved offer from the Madrilenians, who are currently on austerity course.

Varane moved from RC Lens to Los Blancos in 2011 for a ten million euro transfer fee. There he developed into one of the strongest defensive players ever and for years formed a reliable duo with ex-captain Sergio Ramos.

Varane won numerous titles with Real: Among other things, he won the Champions League four times and won three Spanish championships.
