It will be the last dance for Nadal: the superstar will say goodbye at the final round of the top eight in the Davis Cup. It is not impossible that the German team will end its career.
At the end of his fantastic career, tennis star Rafael Nadal is aiming for a special title. The 38-year-old could win the Davis Cup with Spain for the sixth time – and also meet the German team in the finals in Malaga in front of their home crowd.
The farewell tour starts on November 19th. The host nation with Nadal and world number two Carlos Alcaraz will face the Netherlands on hard court in the quarterfinals at the Palacio Deportes Martín Carpena. If the Spaniards win, Nadal’s appearance in the semifinals against Germany will continue – if the German team wins against Canada beforehand.
The exceptional athlete and 22-time Grand Slam winner will retire in the final of the prestigious national competition on November 24th at the latest. Preferably with the “ugliest salad bowl”, as the trophy is called, in your hands.
First final 20 years ago
“I think we’ve come full circle,” Nadal said. The Davis Cup final in Seville in 2004 was one of “his first great joys” as a tennis professional. 20 years ago, Spain won 3-2 against the USA, the then 18-year-old Nadal scored a point with a win against Andy Roddick. Nadal also triumphed with the Spanish team in the Davis Cup in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2019.
However, whether he will also be seen in singles this time or whether his body only allows doubles is unclear and can be decided at short notice. The lineups will only be finally announced shortly before the start of the match.
Nadal has previously been announced at the controversial, star-studded show event “Six Kings Slams” in Saudi Arabia. In addition to Nadal, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, Daniil Medvedev and Holger Rune are scheduled to take part there from November 16th to 19th.
