Long weekend: almost 1.5 million tourists traveled and spent more than 8.00 million

The long weekend ends for the Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity holiday and the first tourism figures are already known. During the days of the event, there was a movement of 1,400,000 tourists throughout the country, who spent $228,479 million, according to a recent survey.

The data arises from the report carried out by the Argentine Confederation of Medium Enterprises (CAME) that took into account tourism and gastronomy sectors, among others.

According to the report, tourists spent an average of $67,518 a day each. The average stay was 2.4 days. The report pointed out that “visitors this year were much more austere, with lower purchasing power noted,” detailing that “they traveled, but prioritized free activities and reduced their gastronomic demand,” so “it was common to see cities with hotel occupancy in very high levels and at the same time, half-empty coffee shops and restaurants.

Compared to the same weekend last year, the report stated that 7.1% fewer people traveled and the economic impact had a real decrease of 33.3%.

In this regard, CAME indicated that “this is explained because the 2023 holiday was four days, and the exchange rate at that time made Argentina more convenient for the international visitor.”

At the same time, they maintained that “this year, the absence of the Previaje program was compensated by the increase in the offer of sports and cultural tournaments and a powerful calendar of meetings” and highlighted that “the weather was mostly good, combining sun with clouds and spring temperatures that encouraged people to visit beaches, hot springs, mountains, and walks.”

Among the busiest cities were: Mar del Plata, Cariló, Mar de las Pampas, Sierra de la Ventana, Villa General Belgrano, Esteros del Iberá, San Rafael, Salta, Bariloche, Puerto Madryn, El Calafate, Puerto Iguazú and Federación.

So far this year there have already been five long weekends, where 9.8 million tourists traveled and spent $1.6 billion, according to the statistics of the union entity.

The Government highlighted that there was a significant tourist movement in one of the last opportunities to take advantage of a holiday in combination with a weekend and take a break before the end of the year.

In this regard, the Secretary of Tourism and Sports, Daniel Scioli, expressed himself in his X account, highlighting that there was “more than 70% average occupancy in all regions of Argentina.”

Likewise, Scioli pointed out that “thousands of tourists traveled to the Coast, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe by car and the other provinces had a high average of reservations and tourists in the midst of events and festivities of the weekend.”
