International Day of Rural Women: why it is commemorated every October 15

He October 15 commemorates the International Day of Rural Women with the aim of recognizing the work of these actors in agriculture and pointing out their importance in contributing to food production. Why the International Day of Rural Women is commemorated every October 15

This day began to be celebrated on October 15, 2008. And it was in December 2007 when the UN established October 15 as the International Day of Rural Women. With the objective, initially, of improve working conditions, pay attention to their needs, and also empower them in the social, economic and political spheres.

Each year the celebration has a different theme, and in 2024 it is: “Rural women as sustainers of nature for our collective future: building climate resilience, conserving biodiversity and caring for the land to achieve gender equality and women’s empowerment and girls”.
