He was brought in to give England their first major title since 1966. Thomas Tuchel knows this and states exactly that as his goal as the new national coach.
Shortly before his official introduction as England’s new national football coach, Thomas Tuchel addressed his first words to the fans via social media. “I can promise you that I am very excited, I feel very honored,” said the 51-year-old in a video published on the Instagram account of the English FA.
He will “do everything to ensure that we first and foremost qualify for the World Cup and that we then have a successful World Cup. We will try to get the second star on our jersey.”
Tuchel signed an 18-month contract. He should lead the Three Lions to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada and end the long wait for the first major title since the 1966 World Cup triumph.
Tuchel feels excited
“I’m a little nervous, it’s my first message as England coach,” said the former Bayern coach in the video, which was recorded in the “holy” site of English football: “I’m at Wembley, where else? That’s also a reason to be a little nervous. I think that’s a good thing.”
Tuchel will start working as coach of the team around captain Harry Kane from FC Bayern from January 1, 2025; he is the first German to hold the most important coaching position in England. The contract with the FA was signed on October 8th.
