NHL: Despite Draisaitl goal: fourth defeat for the Oilers

Leon Draisaitl scores, but the Edmonton Oilers lose in Dallas. The other Germans in the NHL also drew attention.

Despite top ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl’s third goal of the season, the Edmonton Oilers suffered their fourth defeat of the young season in the North American professional league NHL. The previous season’s Stanley Cup finalists lost 4-1 away to the Dallas Stars. Cologne’s Draisaitl scored the goal in the final phase to make it 1:3. The 28-year-old now has three goals and two assists this season.

The two German professionals John-Jason Peterka and Lukas Reichel played a decisive role in the outcome of their game in the duel between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Buffalo Sabres. The 22-year-old Peterka contributed a goal and an assist in his Sabres’ 4-2 away win and already has four goals this season. But Reichel was also able to attract attention in his season debut. In just over eight minutes of playing time, the 22-year-old prepared both of his Blackhawks’ goals. It was his 100th appearance in the NHL.

The game could have been a turning point for the Nuremberg native, who was not included in the first four games of the season. Head coach Luke Richardson said Reichel performed well. Reichel himself emphasized: “You want to play every game, but I learned last season that you always have to stay positive.”

Victories for Stützle and Seider, Grubauer on the bench

Tim Stützle also had a goal involvement with the Ottawa Senators. In the 5:4 home win against Tampa Bay Lightning, the 22-year-old provided the assist for Brady Tkachuk’s 4:3 lead shortly before the end of the second period. Meanwhile, Moritz Seider and the Detroit Red Wings celebrated a clear 5-2 win over the still winless Nashville Predators, but the defender remained without a scorer point.

Without goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer, the Seattle Kraken won their home game against the Calgary Flames 2-1 after overtime. Grubauer from Rosenheim moved back onto the bench for Joey Daccord in the Kraken’s goalie rotation.
