Roger Kluge has done it again. Together with his teammate Tim Torn Teutenberg, who is 16 years his junior, he won gold again in the two-man team race.
Old master Roger Kluge and youngster Tim Torn Teutenberg won the Madison title after a confident performance at the end of the Track Cycling World Championships in Copenhagen. The newly formed duo won with 76 points ahead of Belgium (60) and Denmark (59).
For the 38-year-old Kluge it was the third title in the popular two-man team race. He had previously triumphed with his long-time partner Theo Reinhardt in 2018 and 2019. Reinhardt wasn’t there in Copenhagen this time; instead, 22-year-old Teutenberg stepped in and impressed straight away. The Association of German Cyclists ended the title fights after 22 decisions with a gold, a silver and a bronze medal.
Lea Lin Teutenberg (Cologne) took 11th place in the points race on the last day. In the elimination race, Benjamin Boos (Erfurt) came 19th. In the men’s sprint, the Dutchman Harrie Layreysen was crowned world champion for the sixth time in a row. The five-time Olympic champion won his 16th World Cup rainbow jersey. The German drivers were eliminated early.
