Tennis: Zverev misses semi-finals in Vienna

Things are looking good for Alexander Zverev in the quarter-finals of the tennis tournament in Vienna for a long time. The Hamburg player even made up for a deficit in the second set. And yet it’s not enough.

Alexander Zverev missed the semi-finals at the ATP tournament in Vienna and has to wait for his second title win of the year. The 2021 Olympic tennis champion lost in the round of the best eight 6:2, 6:7 (5:7), 4:6 against the Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

The 27-year-old from Hamburg won the first set confidently, but was unable to maintain this level over the long term. So far this year, the world number three has won the clay court tournament in Rome. He continues to suffer from the effects of pneumonia.

Musetti will now face number seven seeded Briton Jack Draper, who defeated Czech Tomas Machac in three sets.

As in the first two appearances in Vienna, the top seed Zverev appeared in strong form at the beginning and quickly took the first set. He initially shook off the weak phase that followed, but had to admit defeat in the tie-break. In the third set, Zverev quickly found himself 3-0 behind and came close again. But that was of no use anymore.
