Elections in Uruguay: this will be the act of unity of the coalition to prepare the ground for the runoff

The parties that make up the multicolor coalition They consider that success in the runoff will depend, in large part, on the unity they show after a campaign for Sunday’s elections where several of their candidates were controversial.

The first step to do this will be the photo of the four candidates, Alvaro Delgado, Andres Ojeda, Guido Manini Ríos and Pablo Mierestogether on Sunday night or, more likely, early Monday morning.

The chosen place is Varela squarein Montevideolocated a few blocks from the command of the candidate of the National Party (PN)where the four will arrive once they have addressed their voters at their respective headquarters.

There will be a fence around the square and militancy of the four forces, PN, Colorado Party (PC), Open Town Hall (CA) and Independent Party (PI)they detailed Scope from the PC. It is not yet established how the word will be used, but it is expected that the four will give speeches, they added.

The multicolor coalition, born in the 2019 elections to support the candidacy of Luis Lacalle Pouit then took several two weeks to achieve the unity photo from the first round, first weighing the programmatic agreements.

On this occasion, the four and a half years of operation of the alliance have paved the way for the show of unity to come first and then the negotiations on government plans. The names and portfolios they will occupy will come later and if they win in the second round on November 24.

A first attempt to structure how the renewed coalition will work, at least in half of its references – Manini Ríos and Mieres repeat – was given by the Colorado Pedro Bordaberry by proposing a coordination table and nominating the independent candidate to lead it. Immediately the former Minister of Labor and Social Security lowered the price and clarified that it was an early decision.

Beyond the image of cohesion that the four leaders offer once the preliminary results of the general election are known, the coalition will face a new scenario: the balance of forces will not be the same. The National Party and the Colorado Party will remain in a certain parity and Cabildo Abierto would see its influence diminished in the Parliamentif the voting intention projections are met.

The dynamics with which the four parties have coexisted and functioned in the current administration must be reviewed, Ojeda warned. “You are going to have a board of directors with shareholders in half. Today we have grown and we will surely have a very important relative weight,” stated the Colorado candidate for Scope in an interview.
