Ralph Fiennes gave details of the plot of the next apocalyptic film 28 Years Later. The third installment of the franchise, which began with 28 Days Later in 2002 and was followed by 28 Weeks Later In 2007, you will see the return of Cillian Murphy like Jim, while Danny Boyle is back in the director’s chair and Alex Garland returns as screenwriter with Boyle.
Details about the plot have been scarce so far, although Fiennes, who is joining the franchise, has dropped the synopsis in a new interview.
What will 28 Years Later be about?
Confirming that two of the three planned films have been filmed, he told IndieWire: “Britain has had this terrible plague of infected people who are violent, rabid humans with a few pockets of uninfected communities for 28 years.
“AND focuses on a boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. Guide you through this beautiful landscape of northern England. But of course, all around them, hidden in forests and hills, are the infected. But finds a doctor who is a man who we might think is going to be strange and weird, but who is actually a force for good”.
In addition to Fiennes, 28 Years Later will welcome Jodie Comer and Aaron Taylor-Johnson to the cast.
Boyle is directing the first film, while Nia DaCosta of The Marvels will be in charge of directing the sequel, called The Bone Temple.
Sony Pictures plans to release 28 Years Later in the United States on June 20, 2025.
