He was narrowly defeated in the final, but he is still celebrating the greatest success of his career: In the 90 kilo weight class, the judoka Eduard Trippel won the first silver medal for the German team in Tokyo.
Judoka Eduard Trippel won the silver medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo after losing in the final. The 24-year-old from Rüsselsheim lost the final in the legendary Nippon Budokan against the Georgian Lascha Bekauri by Waza-ari in the weight class up to 90 kilograms on Wednesday and thus just missed the first German Olympic victory in judo since Ole Bischof 2008.
For Trippel, however, the silver medal in Tokyo is the greatest success of his judo career so far. He is also the first German medalist in this weight class since 1996, when Marko Spittka won bronze. For the German judo men, Trippel ended the medalless period of nine years since the 2012 Games.
