Nadal’s confession about his health: “I have a problem that has no solution”

“With the scaphoid split in half it is difficult for the injury to be forgotten. This is a truth like a temple and it will not be forgotten for the rest of my life”, explained “Rafa” Nadal.

In a press conference after beating German Yannick Hanfmann 6-2, 6-3, 6-4, in the second round of the Australian OpenNadal referred to the physical problems he is going through.

“I play because it makes me happy and because challenges motivate me. If there comes a time when pain overcomes everything else, and takes away the illusion of achieving goals, it’s time to think about other things”, explained the Majorcan.

Nadal’s physical situation is complex, according to what the protagonist himself commented, and at that point he added: “I have a problem that has no solution down there”.

“Another thing is that he can let me compete with more or less guarantees and that is what we are trying to do. With what I have I don’t expect the conditions for the rest of my career to be perfect, but I do trust that in a way continued to let me develop my professional activity”, he reflected.

The problem in his foot, known as Muller-Weiss disease, was detected in Nadal in 2005 and since he began the consultations and treatments to face it, he plays with a template.

However, “Matador” himself also confessed that the problem in his foot caused complications in his knees, hips and back, but throughout his career he had to adapt to the situation, which was diagnosed when he was 19 years old.

Nadal, 35, will bet on winning the Australian Open, largely due to the absence of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, to overcome both in the race to win more Grand Slam tournaments, since if he succeeds he will have reached 21.

“What I am not going to do is play without having options for absolutely nothing or for it to be extreme suffering.

Suffering with options is always going to be worth it. If the suffering is without options to achieve the objectives, then it loses its meaning”, completed the Spaniard.
