The National Food, Drug, and Medical Technology Administration (ANMAT) prohibited the sale of two brands of olive oil due to irregularities in its manufacturing. Through the provision 9416/2024 and 9408/2024published this Tuesday in the Official Gazette, the agency determined that both products cannot be reliably and clearly identified as produced or manufactured in a specific establishment.

In detail, these are the olive oils of the Olivares and La Almazara brands. As reported by the administration, the measure aims to “protect the health of citizens from the consumption of the illegal product.”

The ban of two olive oils by ANMAT

In the first case, of the product produced by the Olivares brand, the Directorate of Industries and Food Products of the province of Buenos Aires (DIPA) determined through SiFeGA that the company name displayed on the product label is non-existent. Subsequently, it was also possible to realize the falsity of the labels of the National Registry of Establishments (RNE) and the National Registry of Food Products (RNPA) displayed in the article.

Furthermore, the lack of municipal authorization for the establishment that produces the product and the failure to comply with the building and sanitary conditions for “a food manufacturing establishment” were also confirmed, which is why they proceeded to intervene.

“Because it is a product that cannot be reliably and clearly identified as produced, processed and/or divided in a specific establishment, it cannot be produced anywhere in the country, nor marketed or sold in the territory of the Republic of in accordance with the provisions of Article 9, section II of Law No. 18284,” the administration ruled. The product is also marketed on online sales platforms, so the INAL Health and Nutritional Food Surveillance Department asked the Program for Monitoring and Supervision of Advertising and Promotion of Products subject to Health Surveillance to evaluate the measures to be adopted. .
