Italian skiing talent dies aged 19 after falling on his face
The injuries were too serious: Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi died after a fall during training. The young talent was only 19 years old.
The 19-year-old Italian ski racer Matilde Lorenzi has died after a fall in training. This was announced by the Italian Ministry of Defense. “The Ministry of Defense and Minister Guido Crosetto express their deep condolences to the family and colleagues of Private Matilde Lorenzi, a sports soldier and figurehead of Italian skiing, who tragically died as a result of a very serious accident during training,” wrote the ministry on platform X.

Great sadness for Matilde Lorenzi
Young driver Lorenzi trained in Schnalstal in South Tyrol on Monday. According to media reports, the athlete hit her face on the icy slope when she fell. A helicopter took Lorenzi to the hospital in Bolzano, where she died from her injuries, the Ansa news agency reported. The Italian Winter Sports Federation (Fisi) also expressed its condolences to Lorenzi’s family, her friends “and all those who loved Matilde and will always remember her.”
The Fis also expressed its “deepest condolences”. The world association wrote: “Fis joins Fisi President Flavio Roda and the entire Italian winter sports community in their grief, including the coaches, athletes, teammates, the Federal Council and all Fisi employees.” The Italian Sofia Goggia, one of the best downhill skiers in the world, also expressed her sadness for her young colleague on Instagram.
