Deputies reached consensus in committees and advanced reforms to the DNU law

In plenary session of the commissions Constitutional Matters and Petitions, Powers and Regulationsthe opposition gathered the necessary signatures and issued an opinion to reform law 26,122 that regulates the issuance of the Decrees of Necessity and Urgency (DNU). The discussion came within the framework of the 39 decrees issued by Javier Milei in less than a year at the head of the Executive Branch.

The initiative was presented in Deputies by the blocks of Federal Meeting and the Civic Coalition and has the support of Peronism and a sector of the Radical Civic Unionwhile both the ruling party and the PRO They rejected it. The objective of the Government and its related blocs was to postpone the debate so that the period of ordinary sessions could conclude without it being discussed on the premises. DNU regulation: what the project consists of

The opposition project involves among its main modifications the expansion of the Bicameral Legislative Procedure Commission (which reviews the DNU); that he Legislative Branch have a time limit to ratify the decrees and not to revoke them; and clarify the definition of need and urgency.

Furthermore, it points out that reach with the rejection of a single Chamber to nullify the decree, and also aims to establish a peremptory period of validity of the DNU after which it loses validity.

The current regulations establish that for the Legislative Branch to reject a decree it requires the refusal of both Chambers of Congress.

The DNUs of Javier Milei

Despite the approval of the majority of the DNU, there are two decrees that went through strong controversies. The first was the 656/24, which gave him $100,000 million of extra funds reserved for the Intelligence Servicewhich had been renovated weeks before. Another was the limitation to requests for access to public informationwhose main authority in the Executive Branch itself expressed its complete disagreement and claimed not to have been consulted.
