Contract until 2027
Portuguese Ruben Amorim becomes coach at Manchester United
Manchester United has found a new coach. The Portuguese Ruben Amorim is supposed to lead the English football record champions to success again. But not right away.
As expected, the Portuguese Ruben Amorim will be the new manager of Manchester United. The football club from the English Premier League confirmed this today. Amorim, who comes from Portuguese league leaders Sporting Lisbon, signed a contract until June 2027 with an option for another season. However, his contract in Manchester does not start until November 11th.
Youngest Man United coach since coaching legend Busby
At 39, Amorim becomes the Red Devils’ youngest coach since the legendary Sir Matt Busby, who was 36 when he took over. It was already announced at the beginning of the week that Man United had decided on the Portuguese. Sporting had mentioned in a statement to the Portuguese stock market regulator CMV that Man United was prepared to pay the contractually agreed transfer fee of ten million euros for the coach. Accordingly, Amorim had an exit clause.
Amorim succeeds Dutchman Erik ten Hag at United, with whom the club parted ways on Monday, although his contract was only extended at the start of the season. The record champions, who were once again in crisis, lost 2-1 at West Ham United on Sunday. After only three wins, two draws and four defeats, the team is in 14th place. Interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy will look after the team until Amorim takes office.
