Now it’s official: The world champion’s Red Bull is on the move with a new engine. This has consequences for Max Verstappen in the close World Cup duel with Lando Norris.
Max Verstappen will be moved five places back on the grid for the Brazilian Grand Prix. The engine change, already announced by Red Bull’s motorsport consultant Helmut Marko, was confirmed on Friday by the race officials at the World Automobile Association in São Paulo. Since this is already the sixth engine, Verstappen will be punished accordingly. Only the use of a total of four engines is permitted during the season.
The penalty has no impact on qualification today for the sprint decision. It only refers to the race on Sunday (6 p.m. CET/Sky), before which the 27-year-old Dutchman Verstappen leads the World Cup standings with 47 points ahead of the British Lando Norris from McLaren, who is three years younger.
