Manchester City fails – Liverpool new league leaders
For the second time in a few days, Fabian Hürzeler and Brighton face Liverpool – and again his team narrowly loses. The Reds take the lead because Manchester City surprisingly loses.
Fabian Hürzeler narrowly missed a surprise with Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. The former coach of FC St. Pauli lost 1:2 (1:0) with the English first division football team against the new league leaders FC Liverpool despite a long lead.
The Reds benefited from previous leaders Manchester City’s first league defeat this season. At AFC Bournemouth, star coach Pep Guardiola’s team lost 1:2 (0:1). In the table, Liverpool (25 points) is two points ahead of the Cityzens, Brighton & Hove Albion (16) lost touch with the front runners.
A few days after the League Cup clash, which Liverpool won 3-2 in Brighton, new signing Ferdi Kadioglu (14th minute) scored early for the guests. Liverpool strikers Cody Gakpo (69th) and Mohamed Salah (72nd) turned the game in favor of coach Arne Slot’s team.
In Bournemouth, Manchester City suffered their second competitive defeat in a row after losing 2-1 in the League Cup at Tottenham Hotspur. Antoine Semenyo (9th) and Evanilson (64th) scored for the mid-table hosts. The connecting goal by ex-Leipzig player Josko Gvardiol (82nd) came too late to avert defeat.
