Córdoba: electronic party organizers admit their responsibility in the death of Tania Abrile

At the end of July Ivan Aballay and Héctor Baistrochi, owners of Buenas Noches Producciones, were arrested in the city of Córdoba and in La Calera.

The businessmen who organized the electronic party where Tania Abrile died in 2016 were sentenced last Friday to three years of suspended prison, after pleading guiltyby the Criminal and Correctional Chamber of the 6th Nomination of Cordova. The young woman had consumed amphetamines and methamphetamines that she purchased at the location.

Both recognized that these types of meetings are ”risky for the life and health of people” and were convicted of the crimes of facilitating a place for drug consumption, doubly aggravated and manslaughter.

Furthermore, they suffered disqualification for six years from carrying out any activity related, directly or indirectly, to the organization, production, promotion, supervision, or administration of electronic music events. They must also carry out community work for three hours a week for a period of two years at the Moving Mountains Foundation, and they have Prohibited from leaving the country without requesting authorization.

Sentence for the ‘doctor’ and the security guard

But they were not the only ones who received a penalty: on the one hand, Walter Fabián Barretohired as additional medical personnel despite lacking a qualifying title, was sentenced to eight years in effective prison – although for health reasons he will be able to access house arrest – for the crime of simple homicide; and Mario Alfredo Novarosecurity guard, with three years of suspended prison and a disqualification from practicing in the field of electronic event security.

The court was made up of judges Enrique Buteler, Pablo Brandán Molina and Esteban Díaz Reynawho led the abbreviated process in which the parties agreed on a series of conditions that BNP owners must comply with, such as return the Jerónimo award that had been awarded to them in 2019, in the form of an ”expression of regret and a gesture of public apology”. It should be noted that the Court of Accusation initially dismissed the owners of the event, but then the Superior Court of Justice (TSJ) reversed the decision.

In this way, the judges emphasized that the defendants defined the activity as “risky for the life and health of people.”
