The president of ACARASebastián Beato, pointed out that “for the third consecutive month we continue with monthly and interannual growth, with an October that remains above 44,000 patents and that is good news because it consolidates a good second half after a very worrying first half. Since the beginning of the year I was excited about closing the year with a figure that starts with 4 but today we are certain that we are going to have more than 410,000 units, something that back in March seemed unthinkable.”

In October, the interannual variation of patents for the “Cars” category showed a growth of 8.8%. While there was a drop of 4.4% in the “Light” and a strong jump of 40.1% in the “Heavy”.

However, in the ten months of the year the three subgroups are still below the same period in 2023. Last year, “Cars” was 7.7% above the current level, while “Light” registered 14. 3% more patents. While the “Heavy” category was 1.1% up.

One of the most sought-after segments by consumers is the Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), which, in recent years, has displaced classic silhouettes such as hatchbacks and sedans.

In the ranking of the 1st best-selling models, there are two that belong to this segment and compete with the sought-after pickups and lower-priced models such as the Peugeot 208, Fiat Cronos and Toyota Yaris.

These are the Corolla Cross, which comes from Brazil, and the Volkswagen Taos, which is produced in General Pacheco. These models occupied eighth and ninth place in October sales.

The rest of the top ten SUVs is made up of a platoon of different brands. The nationally produced Peugeot 2008 is third in sales in the segment (it ranks 11th in the general ranking). This model was launched this year and is growing in market share.

The fourth SUV in sales is the Chevrolet Tracker (12th overall). It is also produced in the country and has a long history in the market.

Fifth place among SUVs was in the hands of the Ford Territory (14th overall). It is a model that the American brand produces in China and is in high demand. Until a few months ago, imports were not regularized and shortages were common.

The next four positions are also occupied by SUVs: Jeep Compass, Volkswagen T.Cross, Renault Kardian and Jeep Renegade.

Then you have to go back to 22nd place in the general ranking to find the model that completes the top ten of SUVs. This is Volkswagen Nivus.

Although not everyone agrees that. Due to its design, this model would not fall into the SUV category, the German brand considers it within this group. These last five models are also imported.
