TSG Hoffenheim fires coach Matarazzo
Only nine points from ten games: TSG Hoffenheim’s record in this Bundesliga season is miserable. Now the club is drawing conclusions and dismissing the coach.
Bundesliga club TSG Hoffenheim has fired coach Pellegrino Matarazzo. According to information from the “Bild” newspaper and the “Kicker”, the TSG bosses informed the 46-year-old about the separation today. The club has not yet officially confirmed the report.
The Europa League participant is currently in 15th place in the table with just nine points from ten games. “If you play this cut, you are in danger of relegation. This is the cut that in the end is not sufficient,” Hoffenheim’s sports director Andreas Schicker said on Sunday after the 0-0 draw at FC Augsburg and announced a timely analysis.
TSG Hoffenheim: Successor candidates should be ready
Pellegrino Matarazzo himself had spoken calmly about his future. “I’m doing my job as best I can. I can’t influence the rest. I don’t know what’s coming, but I’m not afraid of anything,” said the football teacher before his dismissal.
According to the football trade magazine “Kicker”, Hoffenheim is prepared for the personnel decision and has already sounded out a successor. The candidates traded so far include Karlsruhe head coach Christian Eichner and assistant national coach Sandro Wagner, both of whom have a past in Hoffenheim. Another candidate to succeed Matarazzo is Sturm Graz coach Christian Ilzer. The 47-year-old has been coaching Sturm Graz for four years and, together with Schicker and technical director Paul Pajduch, who has already been brought to Hoffenheim, led the Austrians to a double win and the Champions League.
