What is the FVS?: the system that FIFA analyzes to eliminate the VAR and its controversies

The FIFA will seek to replace the VARthe controversial technological tool for video assistance to referees, with the Football Video Support (FVS), a simplified option where coaches intervene.

Since its appearance in the middle of the last decade in order to help referee decisions, VAR has only brought more controversy and problems in the world of football. So much so that, this year in the Premier League, the dissolution of the tool in the competition was discussed.

Therefore, knowing the criticism of the technological tool around the world, the mother body of international football will seek to implement the FVS, a more simplified variant of the VAR with a more accessible approach and that includes the direct intervention of the coaches in the reviews.

With this method, Technical directors may request two reviews per match, although they will lose an opportunity if the claim is not successful. In this case, the referee will be obliged to review the play and will not have the initiative to go to the images on his own initiative.

Unlike VAR, The FVS only requires between four and five cameras and eliminates the figure of the video referee.

FIFA hopes to have approval from the International Football Association Board (IFAB) in the coming months to begin using the tool in other tournaments, becoming internationalized in 2025.
