Strong comeback: Double Krawietz and Pütz in the final

2:6, 0:2 – at the moment it looks as if the German tennis doubles Krawietz and Pütz have no chance in the semi-finals. But then things get exciting again.

Thanks to a successful comeback, the German tennis doubles Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz surprisingly reached the final of the season finale in Turin. In the semi-finals, the Davis Cup duo overturned a significant deficit against the two Australians Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson and prevailed 2:6, 6:3, 11:9.

In the final of the US Open in New York, the two Germans lost to the Australian pairing in two sets. Around four months later, the two now held their own after a chanceless first set in the match tiebreak, in which they had to fend off a match point against them.

On Sunday, Krawitz and Pütz will play against Harri Heliövaara/Henry Patten (Finland/Great Britain) or Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic (El Salvador/Croatia) for the title.

Krawietz and Pütz had already looked like losers. In the Turin multi-purpose arena, which was slowly filling up early in the afternoon, the 32-year-old Krawietz and Pütz, who will turn 37 on Tuesday, did not get into the game well from the start and had problems with their own serves. In the first set the two had to give up two service games.

In the second set, the US Open finalists were already 0-2 behind – and still fought their way back. They saved themselves in the match tiebreak, in which they were behind for a long time.

Successful on their joint debut

The German Davis Cup duo qualified together for the first time for the year-end tournament of the eight best doubles of the season and was ranked lowest in the field in eighth place. The fact that they were the first German doubles team in the 55-year history of the tournament to reach the semi-finals of the year-end tournament was already a great success. Now Krawietz and Pütz have topped this again as the first German doubles in the final.
